Wai'anae woman killed after car plunges off cliff

The city Department of the Medical Examiner has identified Eitiline Love, 28, of Wai'anae as the woman who died yesterday after her car went off a 30-foot embankment on Farrington Highway near Keawa'ula Bay, also known as Yokohama Bay.

Police said a 2005 Nissan four-door sedan was heading toward Wai'anae on Farrington Highway when, at a left bend in the road, the car veered right onto the makai shoulder, hit the end of a guardrail and plunged off a cliff about noon.

The car left the road about 800 feet south of the beach park entrance and landed upright among large boulders near the water's edge.

Lifeguards removed the woman from the car and performed CPR until paramedics and firefighters arrived and carried her up to the road, said city Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.

She was taken to the Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center in critical condition and died there, police said. It was not known if alcohol or drugs were involved.
