MILDURA, Australia — Samantha Stosur and Jelena Dokic had straight-set victories Saturday to give Australia a 2-0 lead in its Fed Cup World Cup II playoff against Switzerland.
Stosur beat Amra Sadikovic 6-1, 6-2 and Dokic defeated Stephanie Voegele 7-6 (1), 6-4 on grass courts at the Mildura Lawn Tennis Club.
Stosur didn't lose a point on her serve in the first set.
"I was really happy with the way I played. I didn't make too many errors," she said. "It is good to get off to a good start and hopefully we can keep it going from here."
Dokic said swirling winds made her match a lottery.
"I think the conditions were horrible," she said. "It really got windy in my match and just especially in the middle of the first set. It was just impossible to have a rally of two or three shots."
On Sunday, Stosur plays Voegele and Dokic takes on Sadikovic in reverse singles. Play will conclude with doubles with Stosur and Rennae Stubbs meeting Voegele and 15-year-old Mateja Kraljevic.
The winner advances to World Group II in 2010.
