McLachlin carded a 3-under-par 69 and was two-strokes behind veteran Jerry Kelly in the PGA's Zurich Classic at New Orleans.
Wie, playing in the LPGA's Corona Championship at Morelia, Mexico, shot a 2-under 71 and was seven strokes behind defending champion Lorena Ochoa, who fired her second straight bogey-free, 8-under 65 to open a three-stroke lead over Suzann Pettersen.
Kelly, seeking his first PGA Tour victory since 2002, fired a 66 yesterday for a 10-under 134 total on the TPC Louisiana course.
Troy Matteson (64) and Charley Hoffman (66) were at 135. David Toms shot his second consecutive 68 and was at 8-under 136 along with first-round leader Charlie Wi (70), McLachlin, John Merrick (69) and John Rollins (67).
Ochoa, the top-ranked Mexican star, is at 16-under 130. The fifth-ranked Pettersen shot a 64 for 135.
Wie was in a six-way tie for sixth at 9-under 137.
"It was kind of frustrating today," Wie said. "I did not make a single putt out there today. Hopefully tomorrow I will make some birdies."
