Not enough horses, Hollywood Park cancels all Thursday races

LOS ANGELES — Hollywood Park canceled Thursday's races because they didn't have enough horses.
It was a one-time cancellation because the eight-race card could not be filled, track officials said. Typically, a minimum of six horses per race is needed to fill the card but the track couldn't get that amount.
Hollywood Park spokesman Mike Mooney said six races were filled, but two were light.
The decision comes just days after the Del Mar track north of San Diego reduced it's racing week to five days for the first time since 1945. Officials there cited economic reasons. Del Mar had been operating on a six-day race format.
Hollywood Park will have simulcast wagering only on Thursday.
