Pahoa man dies of injuries suffered in Aug. 5 car crash

HILO — A 58-year-old Pahoa man died yesterday of injuries sustained in a one-car crash in Puna on Aug. 5.
Hawaii County police said the man died at The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu.
The man was a passenger in a car drven by a 39-year-old Keaau woman.
Police said the car, a 1999 Saturn sedan, left the road and crashed into some bushes.
The man and woman were taken to Hilo Medical Center, where the woman was treated and released.
The man was later transferred to Queen’s.
Police have initiated a negligent homicide case and have ordered an autopsy.
This is the 14th traffic fatality on the Big Island this year, the same number at this time last year.
