NFL: Seahawks’ Trufant bothered by disk injury

The Seattle Times

RENTON, Wash. — Cornerback Marcus Trufant has an injury to a disk in his back, the Seattle Seahawks have learned.

Trufant, who has not practiced yet in training camp, is making progress in his recovery, but coach Jim Mora said Wednesday the team will be very cautious.
“It’s not anything that will need surgery,” Mora said. “It’s good that we found this out now rather than in the middle of the season and tried to push him through it because now we can make some decisions how to move forward.”
That decision relates to Trufant’s status on the roster. He now is on the physically unable to perform list, which means he hasn’t passed his physical. If he is not activated from that list by the time of final roster cuts on Sept. 5, he won’t be eligible to be activated again until after the Seahawks’ sixth game.
Trufant suffered the back injury July 29, two days before training camp began. He was backpedaling and reached for a ball.
“He’s making significant progress,” Mora said of Trufant. “He is doing really well. We’re going to be very, very careful with backs.”
