Marriott Resorts Hawaii is marking Hawai'i's 50th anniversary of statehood with a "Tweet Yourself to Hawaii" online campaign that uses social media to give away trips to the Islands.
The contest will offer 25 all-expense paid trips for two to a designated Marriott resort on Kaua'i, O'ahu, Maui or the Big Island by submitting a Twitter handle, Facebook connection or e-mail address. Marriott also is giving away an all-expense paid trip to Hawai'i for one winner and 11 friends or family members for the best video describing why he or she loves Hawai'i. The contest Web site is www.marriotthawaiitweets.com.
"Social media is an incredibly powerful communications tool," said Ed Hubennette, Marriott International's vice president for North Asia, Hawai'i and the South Pacific.
Hubennette predicts that the giveaways will generate enough interest that people will "share the news with their friends through Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, message boards, Web sites and blogs, and that the campaign will take on a life of its own and reach tens of thousands of people."
The campaign is the result of a collaborative effort among Marriott, the Hawai'i Visitors and Convention Bureau, Hawaiian Airlines and Hertz.
