RICHMOND, Va. — A person familiar with the decision says Richmond’s Mike London will be Virginia’s new head football coach.
London will replace Al Groh, who was fired a week ago.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity because the school had yet to make the formal announcement. A news conference is scheduled for Monday afternoon.
London spent six years as an assistant at Virginia, serving as defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator from 2001-04, and as defensive coordinator in 2006 and 2007. In between, he was the defensive line coach for the NFL’s Houston Texans in 2005.
His hiring first was reported by several Virginia newspapers and ESPN.
