NBA: Sun pick up Walker in dispersal draft

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — The Connecticut Sun have picked up veteran forward DeMya Walker in a draft of players from the defunct Sacramento Monarchs.
The Sun had the third pick in Monday’s WNBA Dispersal Draft. They chose Walker, a 6-foot-3 forward who averaged over 8 points and 4 rebounds a game for the Monarchs last season.
Walker is a 10-year WNBA veteran out of Virginia, who has scored 2,000 points and pulled down 948 rebounds during her career.
Sun coach Mike Thibault says he was impressed with how Walker played against Connecticut in the 2005 WNBA Finals, won by Sacramento.
Walker says its a bittersweet moment for her, because while she’s excited to be coming to Connecticut, the draft brings home the reality that the Monarchs have disbanded.
