HONOLULU — A new defense spending bill includes several targeted spending provisions championed by U.S. Sen. Daniel Inouye that will benefit companies whose officers have contributed to his re-election campaigns.
The 2010 defense appropriations act signed into law Monday by President Obama contains 34 earmarks sponsored or co-sponsored by the Hawaii Democrat.
Two of his provisions will provide federal money for health care for Hawaii military families and repair the Pearl Harbor-docked USS Missouri.
Others will benefit Hawaii-based firms whose employees have donated to Inouye's campaigns.
Those include earmarks worth $2.2 million to Pacific Marine, $9 million total for two earmarks to Honolulu-based Oceanit and $3.9 million to Referentia Systems Inc.
