Ukulele Picnic planned for Oahu Feb. 13
A free Ukulele Picnic, similar to a wildly popular event held for the past 10 years in Japan, is planned for noon to sunset Feb. 13 at Kakaçako Waterfront Park.
Performers at the free event will inclue Bill "Tappy" Tapia, Ohta-San and Herb Ohta Jr., Pali, Holunape, Manoa DNA, Joy and the Roy Sakuma Ukulele School Super Keiki. From Japan will come Iwao, Kiyoshi Kobayashi and the Ukulele Orchestra of Japan, the Sekiguchi Band and Kimiko Wakiyama.
The annual Ukulele Picnic in Tokyo draws crowds of more then 30,000 people. Its driving force is Kazuyuki Sekiguchi, bass player for the Japanese group Southern All Stars, and his goal is to found a permanent Ukulele Museum here. He and other donors are making the free event possible.
