Man charged in beating of 85-year-old grandmother
An O'ahu grand jury yesterday indicted a 49-year-old 'Aiea man on one count of attempting to murder his 85-year-old grandmother.
Darrel D. Wright was charged with one count of second-degree attempted murder. His bail was set at $500,000.
Wright is accused of severely beating his grandmother at their home on Kaulainahe'e Place Dec. 16. Wright called police that evening and reported that he had just beaten his grandmother, according to court documents.
Ambulance personnel told police that Wright admitted to repeatedly punching the elderly woman, the document said. Wright's grandmother was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition.
If convicted, Wright faces a mandatory prison term of life with the possibility of parole.
