Farmers Market to test out produce donation program

Advertiser Staff

Starting this weekend, the Saturday morning Kapi'olani Community College Farmers Market is inviting shoppers to donate fresh food and goods as they shop; these will be collected by volunteers and given to the Institute for Human Services and Unity Church of Hawaii to be distributed to those in need.

The Hawaii Farm Bureau, which coordinates the market, is donating the tent and table to be used for the "Give It Fresh Today" project during the month of January. Volunteers will be on hand from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturdays and will help load the trucks after the market is over.
The Institute of Human Service operates a shelter for the homeless and Unity Church of Hawaii operates two outreach projects: two nights' a week of food service for Waikiki people and a food service program for HIV/AIDS sufferers through Gregory House.
