UC Davis beats UH softball, 8-1

Jessica Hancock pitched a three-hitter and struck out 18 as UC Davis defeated the University of Hawai'i, 8-1, yesterday at the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas.
Hancock faced 27 batters and struck out the side in five of the seven innings. Kelly Harmon hit a two-run homer and a solo shot, and Sarah Axelson added a three-run homer for UC Davis (5-2).
Amanda Tauali'i homered for the Rainbow Wahine (2-8), who finished the Classic with a 1-4 record and will next play at Loyola Marymount on Wednesday.

UH IN TIE FOR EIGHTH
The University of Hawai'i women's golf team is in a five-way tie for eighth place after firing a 16-over-par 304 yesterday in the first round of the Aztec Invitational at Chula Vista, Calif.
UC Irvine leads the 18-team field after shooting 1-under 287, with San Jose State a shot back.
UC Irvine's Hillary Packard shot 4-under 68 for a one-shot lead.
UH only had four available players in its first tournament of the spring season. Carolina Perez and Corie Hou each shot 1-over 73 to tie for 13th, Phyllis Lai (78) is tied for 53rd and Erin Matsuoka (80) shares 74th.
The tourney concludes today.
