Maui courts seeking volunteer guardians for kids

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai`i State Judiciary is seeking persons to help child abuse and neglect victims by becoming a Volunteer Guardian Ad Litem for the Second Circuit on Maui.

A 40-hour training program is tentatively scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for April 20, 22, 24, 27, and 29.

Volunteer guardians are appointed by the court to represent the best interests of children in abuse or neglect cases. They also keep the court informed about the child's welfare and the services being provided to the families.

In addition to completing the training series, volunteers must undergo criminal history and child abuse registry checks, be 20 years of age or older and be able to spend at least four hours a month working on a case.
