Akaka to speak at dedication of Lanai church

U.S. Sen. Daniel Akaka will speak today at the dedication of the renovated Lanai Union Church building in Lanai City.
Akaka's brother, Kahu Abraham Akaka, served the church more than 50 years ago.
The public is invited to the event, which begins at 10 a.m.
The building, on Dole Park, was originally the town's Buddhist temple. It was given to the Union Church near the end of World War II. Today, it houses Lanai's only preschool.
