A fire rescue crew picked up two women stranded off the Mokulua islands shortly after noon Thursday when they apparently lost their rental kayak.

The women were not injured or in any medical distress, said fire department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig.

A rescue boat was launched from the Kailua Boat Ramp and the women were to be brought ashore there, Seelig said.

The women were in shallow water, standing on a reef, he said, adding that someone had found their kayak.
