Skiing: Norway, Russia win biathlon events at worlds

PYEONGCHANG, South Korea — Norway and Russia won biathlon events Sunday at the world championships.
Three-time world champion Ole Einar Bjoerndalen of Norway joined with Emil Hegle Svendsen, Lars Berger and Halvard Hanevold to cross the finish line in 1 hour, 8 minutes, 4.12 seconds in the biathlon relay. Austria followed and Germany was third.
In the women's mass start event, Olga Zaitseva of Russia finished the 7.8-mile course in 34:18.34 seconds. Anastasiya Kuzmina of Slovakia was 7.5 seconds behind, followed by Helena Jonsson of Sweden. All three missed just two shots.
Kati Wilhelm of Germany, a two-time world champion, had seven shooting penalties and finished last. But she remained atop the overall World Cup standings with 729 points.
