High surf advisories in effect across the state

The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for:
• The east-facing shores of all Hawaiian Islands.
• The north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai.
• The north-facing shores of Maui.
Surf along the north-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu, Molokai and Maui will be 10 to 14 feet this morning, increasing to 14 to 18 feet this afternoon, according to the advisory.
Surf along west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai will be 6 to 10 feet this morning, building to 9 to 12 feet this afternoon.
Surf along the east-facing shores of all islands will be 5 to 8 feet today.
A north-northeast swell generated by a low pressure area far to the northeast of the state combined with moderate trade winds will continue to produce rough surf along east-facing shores of all islands, the weather service said.
A long-period northwest swell will cause surf to rise rapidly across north- and most west-facing shores of the smaller islands this afternoon.
The high surf advisory will remain in effect until 6 a.m. Wednesday.
