The Honolulu Fire Department's helicopter is being trucked back to a hangar at Honolulu International Airport today so mechanical repairs can be made.
Fire Capt. Terry Seelig said the helicopter made a precautionary landing yesterday near the Waiawa Correctional Facility in Central Oahu.
The chopper had been doing aerial observation on a wildfire near Waiau when the pilot noticed a problem, Seelig said.
He was able to set the helicopter down without damaging it and without injuring himself, Seelig said.
Repairs could not be made where it landed and a decision was made to load it on a truck to bring it back to the airport, Seelig said.
Fire officials arranged for the Police Department's helicopter and pilot to continue water drops today on the wildfire, Seelig said.
