Water system work set to begin at beach park
Starting Monday, the Department of Land and Natural Resources will begin a yearlong project to replace the drinking water system at Hapuna Beach State Recreation Area that serves the beach areas and the mauka rental cabin section.
The irrigation system for the beach areas will be replaced at the same time.
The project includes replacement of the water main along Puako Road and water lines serving the upper parking area, comfort stations, showers and water fountains in the north and south sections, and the mauka A-frame rental cabins, dining hall and baseyard.
Pathway replacement and roadway repaving will be done as needed.
The park will remain open but there will be some inconvenience to park users during construction, DLNR said. Work will begin in the park's mauka section first, then in the makai sections and along Puako Road.
