Punahou School's marching band practiced yesterday for the Jan. 20 inaugural parade in Washington, D.C., which will follow the swearing-in of Barack Obama, a 1979 Punahou alumnus, as the 44th president of the United States. The band, co-directed by Alec Briguglio and Jason Sivill, rehearsed "Aloha 'Oe," "Men of Punahou" and Brahms' Symphony No. 1.

Along with the band, 17 JROTC cadets and six cheerleaders — a total of 156 students — will travel to Washington, the school said. In the parade down Pennsylvania Avenue, the students will wear a cadet-style uniform with the Punahou seal. The cost of the trip is $3,500 per student. Donations may be made at www.punahou.edu/giving.
