Bigwig alert! Kevin Fletcher, executive director of Audubon International, is coming to the Islands to talk green — "Moving from Blip to Tip: The Promise and Pitfalls of a More Sustainable Future." He kicks off the weekly "Focus Green" discussion series at 6 p.m. Thursday at the McCoy Studio Theater of the Maui Arts and Cultural Center; sponsored by Dowling Company Inc. Coming up: Mark Plotkin, star of the "Amazon" doc, as well as L. Hunter Lovins — both of whom were recognized as Time Magazine's "Heroes for the Planet." Cost: $5 (students free, with proceeds going to Hawai'i Nature Center, Maui); 808-270-0567.

SAVE THE PLANET

GIVE YOUR PC AND WALLET A BREAK

Even when you aren't using your computer, it's still using power day and night. But thanks to a new gizmo, the ecobutton, you can save energy. The button connects to your PC (a Mac version is still being developed) through a USB port. When you touch the button, the computer takes a nap. When you touch any key, it snaps back to attention. Ecobutton teaches your computer to use the lowest possible power mode — as little as 1.8 watts — and is said to save between $30 and $50 a year. It costs $25 and is available from www.ecobutton-usa.com.

FINAL WORD

"The green revolution stretches across all party lines, generations and national borders."
