Gov. Linda Lingle today announced she has nominated Michael A. Dahilig to fill the remaining University of Hawai'i Board of Regents at-large seat.
Dahilig's name will be submitted to the state Senate for its advice and consent, a state press release said.
Dahilig previously served as a student member to the Board of Regents. He earned his law degree from UH's William S. Richardson School of Law and a bachelor's of science degree in geology and geophysics from the UH-Manoa School of Ocean and Earth Science Technology.
Earlier this month, Lingle selected five regents to immediately replace regents who had been serving as holdovers.
The selection to fill the remaining at-large seat was pending a state Supreme Court decision on a motion filed by Lingle requesting additional time to secure replacement nominations from the Regent Candidate Advisory Council.
Since the Supreme Court's Dec. 4, 2008 order that directed Lingle to select replacements for the six regents held over after their terms expired on June 30, 2008 from the list of qualified candidates presented to her by the Council, two of the remaining three candidates for the second at-large regent withdrew their names from consideration. The Supreme Court denied the motion, leaving Dahilig as the remaining candidate.
