The transmitter serves Maui County and northern portions of the Big Island as well as surrounding coastal waters on both islands.
Broadcasts, at 162.400 Mhz, provide information 24 hours a day on updated buoy reports, wind observations, weather forecasts and severe weather advisories, watches and warnings.
NOAA weather radio also provides emergency alert system messages in coordination with the state of Hawaii Civil Defense Agency.
The transmitter was moved to a different tower location and is expected to provide better reception across upcountry Maui.
Listeners who notice any changes in receiving the NOAA weather broadcast from Haleakala are asked to email raymond.tanabe@noaa.gov and provide their location and details about the changes in reception.
