Hawaii cuisine to be featured on PBS, Travel Channel

By Wanda A. Adams

Island food, farms and chefs will again be featured on national television next month.

The producers of the acclaimed "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations," Zero Point Zero Productions, were here last fall to film a segment of "Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie" on the island of Hawai'i and, while they were here, also shot another Bourdain segment. Both will air in early February.

"Gourmet's Diary of a Foodie" airs at noon Feb. 7 on PBS and features chef and early Hawaii Regional Cuisine proponent Peter Merriman, Richard Ha of Hamakua Springs Country farm, farmer and innovator Ken Love, the Mock Chew family's Waipio taro farm and the popular gift stop for mochi in Hilo, Two Ladies Kitchen. The 20-part series on food experiences around the world airs every Saturday at 12 p.m.

"Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations" will feature chef Alan Wong in a "Food Porn" segment airing 6 p.m. Feb. 9 on the Travel Channel (check local listings closer to the date). No details are available as this segment is still being edited. (By the way, on Monday at 6 p.m., Bourdain visits the Azores Islands.)
