The state has decided to clean remnant lead pellets off the shoreline at Kaimalino Beach and has set a meeting to inform the public about the project for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at 'Aikahi Elementary School cafeteria.

The state Department of Health and the Department of Land and Natural Resources will conduct the cleanup beginning Feb. 16, said Fenix Grange of the Health Department's Hazard Evaluation and Emergency Response Office. The project will take about two weeks to complete and cost $50,000, Grange said.

The plan is to sift the sand to remove pellets and vacuum the rocky shoreline, she said.

The area outside the Marine Corps Base Mokapu gate was a skeet shooting range from about 1934 to at least 1968.
