Kaimuki car crash kills woman, 18

Advertiser Staff

An 18-year-old woman was killed last night when the car she was a passenger in disregarded a stop sign and collided with a sport utility vehicle in Kaimuki.

The medical examiner's officer this morning identified the woman as Dallas Arias of Honolulu.
Police said she was the 32nd traffic fatality of the year, compared with 24 at the same time last year.
Police said the crash took place at 8:42 p.m. at the intersection of 7th Avenue and Kilauea Avenue.
Police said the car was south-bound on 7th when it entered Kilauea and broadsided the SUV. The impact caused the SUV to veer off the road and strike two parked cars.
Arias apparently was not wearing a seat belt, police said. Paramedics took her to a trauma center in critical condition. She was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Police said speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.
The driver, 21-year-old Devin Alexander Martin, of a Campbell Avenue address, was arrested for second-degree negligent homicide and an outstanding warrant.
The driver of the SUV was not injured.
