Firefighters yesterday battled a 250-acre wildfire in Waiawa, just above Waipi'o. No buildings or property was threatened.
The fire, first reported around 3:40 p.m., was not contained by nightfall and firefighters established a perimeter and were monitoring the situation overnight, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Terry Seelig.
Seven HFD engines, four tankers and two helicopters responded to the fire. Federal firefighters joined the effort with four engines and two tankers; a Honolulu Police Department helicopter also assisted.
Meanwhile, four HFD engines responded to a 15-acre brush fire in Makakilo, just below the Makakilo Hale II townhouse complex, after a 5 p.m. call.
Residents were asked to evacuate as the fire advanced to about 50 yards of the complex before it was contained around 5:45 p.m.
