Pro beach volleyball teams with Punahou graduates Sean Scott and Kevin Wong remained in contention for the championship after matches today at the AVP Manhattan Beach (Calif.) Open.

Scott and John Hyden, the tournament's top seed, defeated Ryan Mariano and Ed Ratledge, 21-14, 21-16, to advance in the contenders bracket. Wong and Matt Olson, seeded fifth, suffered their first loss to Brad Keenan and Nick Lucena, 21-19, 26-24, and dropped into the contenders bracket.
Scott and Hyden play Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal, while Wong and Olson play Matt Fuerbringer and Casey Jennings tomorrow. The winners advance to the semifinals.
Keenan and Lucena and reigning Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers are undefeated and advanced to the semifinals, which along with the finals, also will be played tomorrow.
Dalhausser and Rogers, the second seed, moved through their third-round match in straight sets, then needed three to beat seventh-seeded Fuerbringer and Jennings, while Jennings' wife Kerri Walsh and new son Joey watched for the first time together. Then, in the fifth round, Dalhausser-Rogers beat third-seeded Gibb and Rosenthal to make the semis.

Dalhausser and Rogers are trying to become the third men's team in history — and first in nearly 25 years — to win four straight Manhattan Beach Opens.

The top-seeded women's team of Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs cruised into semifinals, winning their third through fifth-round matches in straight sets.
Hyden and Scott were upset in the fourth round and relegated to the contenders' bracket.
