MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. — Beijing Olympians Nicole Branagh and Elaine Youngs won the AVP Manhattan Beach Open today for their first victory in the event as a team and sixth in the eight events they've played this year.
The top-seeded Branagh and Youngs beat third-seeded Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan 21-17, 21-14 to win the title. Branagh and Youngs didn't lose a game all weekend, and gave up 15.5 points per game through their seven matches.
On the men's side, reigning Olympic gold medalists Phil Dalhausser and Todd Rogers failed in their attempt to become the first team in nearly 25 years to win four straight Manhattan Beach titles.
Third seeds Jake Gibb and Sean Rosenthal beat the fifth-seeded Matt Olson and Kevin Wong 21-17, 23-21.
