BASTAD, Sweden — Second-seeded Robin Soderling beat fellow Swede Andreas Vinciguerra, 6-1, 7-6 (6), yesterday to set up a meeting with Juan Monaco in the Swedish Open final.

Monaco, an unseeded Argentine, routed two-time defending champion Tommy Robredo, 6-0, 6-2, in the other semifinal on the slow clay.

Soderling, this year's surprise French Open finalist, saved a set point in the second-set tiebreaker when trailing 6-5. He won it when Vinciguerra netted a forehand return.

Vinciguerra, a wild-card entry ranked No. 460, broke Soderling's serve only once to level at 3-3 in the second set.

The 12th-ranked Soderling reached his first final at Bastad.

"It's going to be fun," he said. "This is a tournament in which I really want to do well. I played well in the opening set. When I broke him early in the second I relaxed too much on the court and he came back."

Soderling will try to become the first Swedish winner of the tournament since 2000, when his coach, Magnus Norman, won the title.

Mercedes Cup: Jeremy Chardy of France beat Nicolas Kiefer of Germany, 6-3, 7-5, yesterday advance to the final of the Mercedes Cup against Victor Hanescu of Romania at Stuttgart, Germany.

Chardy is looking for his first career ATP Tour title, while Hanescu beat Fabio Fognini of Italy, 6-3, 6-7 (4), 6-2, in his bid for a second. The fourth-seeded Hanescu is the only seeded player left in the field.

Kiefer and Chardy both played twice yesterday to complete quarterfinals washed out by rain. Kiefer beat Polish qualifier Lukasz Kubot, 6-2, 6-1, and Chardy defeated Mischa Zverev of Germany, 7-6 (4), 6-1.

Palermo Open: Defending champion Sara Errani will meet top-seeded Flavia Pennetta in an all-Italian final of the Palermo Open at Palermo, Italy.

Fifth-seeded Errani beat Anna-Lena Groenefeld of Germany, 6-3, 4-6, 6-1, in yesterday's semifinals. Pennetta defeated another Italian, Tathiana Garbin, 6-1, 6-1, on the red clay courts of the Country Time Club.

Errani improved her career Palermo record to 12-1. Besides her title last year, Errani reached the semifinals in 2007.

Prague Open: Both semifinal matches at the Prague Open in Prague were suspended because of rain and will be rescheduled today, with the final to follow.

Second-seeded Sybille Bammer of Austria was leading No. 3 Iveta Benesova of the Czech Republic 3-0 in the first set yesterday when play was stopped. Top-seeded Francesca Schiavone of Italy was scheduled to play Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland in the other semifinal.
