HONOLULU — The state Elections Commission has heard dire forecasts for the preparation and execution of next year’s primary and general elections.
However, Chief Elections Officer Kevin Cronin said Wednesday that he will pursue a partial resolution.
Cronin has warned that the state Office of Elections as of now has only $14,000 in the current fiscal year to pay bills and other operations expenses. That is enough to fund the agency until September.
He told the commission he will ask the governor’s office to lend the agency $113,000 until early next year.
Cronin says he also will ask the Legislature next year to free up money in his agency’s budget that is now restricted to the purchase of new voting machines. He says some of that money would be used to repay the loan.
