Honolulu fire rescue crews helped three people to safety after they got lost while hiking in separate incidents this afternoon.
In the first incident, a man and woman were hiking on the Waimano trail in Pearl City when they became disoriented because of cloudy conditions, said Capt. Terry Seelig, HFD spokesman. The couple called for help at about 2:20 and fire crews located them about three miles from the trailhead, Seelig said.
The two were not injured, but a helicopter was used to lift them out of the area because they reported they were tired, Seelig said.
In the second incident, an 82-year-old woman was airlifted to safety after she became separated from her hiking group in Kahana Valley.
The woman was with about 30 hikers when she became tired and decided not to proceed up the trail with the group. Seelig said the hikers lost track of the woman and called 911 for help at about 4:20 p.m.
Firefighters found her along the Kahana Valley loop trail and used the helicopter to bring her to safety. Seelig said the woman did not suffer any injuries.
