Georgianna Lagoria announced today she will resign her position as the executive director of The Contemporary Museum Aug. 14 to relocate with her husband to Los Angeles.
Her husband, David de la Torre, executive director of the Mission Houses Museum, has accepted the position as Director of Programs and Chief Curator for the new LA Plaza de Cultura y Arts.
Both Lagoria and de la Torre have held leadership positions in the Hawaii art community for almost two decades. Lagoria has directed TCM since 1995.
In a press release announcing Lagoria's departure, TCM Board President Violet Loo said, "Georgi has been the most loyal and hardworking executive director that any museum could have asked for and we have been very privileged to have had her at the helm for almost 15 years. However, family considerations must always take precedence. We will miss her tremendously."
