"Rediscover Makiki" today at a free family festival from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. featuring activities and entertainment � including mermaids and synchronized swimmers at the Makiki District Park pool � food booths, games, inflatables and a secondhand book sale.

This Sunset in the Park event doesn't have a beach, but the public can swim in the pool from 1 to 5 p.m., and "Iron Man," below, will be shown on a screen in the park at 7:30 p.m.
