TONIGHT'S MUST-SEE: “RESCUE ME,” 7 P.M., FX
As tonight's hour begins, most of the guys are oddly content about sex and romance.
Chief “Needles” has a hot bride from Russia, Franco has a hotter lover, Lou has a marriage proposal from the beauty who once stole his money.
And Tommy (Denis Leary) is in a state of excess. He's having casual sex with his estranged wife Janet (Andrea Roth) and with Sheila (Callie Thorne), his cousin's widow.
Now this crumbles in two big scenes. One (at a bar party) is sophomoric, but the other is brilliant. Janet and Sheila are alone at the firehouse. The result is beautifully written, acted and directed.
Also, MauraTierney (“ER”) has an odd little moment near the end of the hour; she'll be back.
TONIGHT'S ODDITY: “MORE TO LOVE” DEBUT, 8 P.M., FOX
The “Bachelor” producer has copied his own formula, doubling the weights.
Luke Conley, 26, is 6-foot-3 and 330 pounds. He meets 20 women, ranging in age from 22 to 37 and in weight from 180 to 279. As in “The Bachelor,” there are a few professionals (a lawyer, a rocket scientist) and a lot of others, including four waitresses.
Some are cheery; one leaps into the pool, in her gown. Many are forlorn; this show's biggest trouble – beyond its stunning lack of originality – is the overload of tears.
