Palace cuts electric bill with energy-saving procedures
A variety of energy-saving practices has helped 'Iolani Palace cut its electric bill in half over the past year, The Friends of Iolani Palace said yesterday.
Among the measures were replacing incandescent bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs in all non-historic rooms, turning off overhead lights during the day, tinting windows and making sure exterior doors to the palace, palace galleries and the barracks were kept closed.
The palace said it consumed 4,615 kilowatts a day in 2008. Today, the palace averages 3,500 kilowatts a day.
