Hawai'i County police have identified the two people killed in a traffic crash on Sunday in Pahoa as Thomas G. Reimer, 36, and his 7-year-old son, Thomas G. Reimer Jr.

Responding to a 7:33 p.m. call, Puna patrol officers and traffic investigators determined that the father and son were on a 2006 Suzuki motorcycle and traveling south on Route 130 when a 21-year-old Pahoa man driving a 1999 Mazda sedan traveling north on Route 130 made a left turn onto 'Ainaloa Boulevard, police said.

The father and son, who were wearing helmets, were pronounced dead at Hilo Medical Center at 11:33 p.m., police said.

The driver of the Mazda was arrested for investigation of two counts of negligent homicide, promoting a detrimental drug in the third degree and not having no-fault insurance, police said. He was being held at the East Hawai'i Detention Center pending further investigation.

Police ask that anyone with information on the crash call Officer Michael Molnar at 961-2293.

The deaths were 10th and 11th traffic fatalities on the Big Island this year compared to 11 at this time last year.
