No grace period on citations when ban on using cell phone while driving kicks in July 1
Honolulu police will immediately begin citing drivers who violate Honolulu’s upcoming July 1 ban on driving while using mobile electronic devices, Maj. Thomas Nitta said today.
“There will be no grace period,” Nitta said.
Violators face a $67 fine for the first offense. Penalties for subsequent violations will be determined by judges hearing the cases, Nitta said.
Honolulu police have set up a page on their Web site, www.honolulupd.org, with more details on the new law.
