Learn more about a new after-school organization that promotes personal growth among girls ages 7 to 12 at CharmFaire, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. June 17 at the Ala Moana Hotel’s Hibiscus II Ballroom.

CharmFaire is an introduction to ClubCharm, an after-school center that will launch on Sept. 2.
Designed to integrate topics for personal growth, ClubCharm’s curriculum will include confidence, attitude, money management, appearance, goal setting, health and fitness, how to start conversations, and more. Created by Violet Shimoko, ClubCharm is meant to be be a light-hearted, safe and nurturing environment where girls can spend an afternoon.
“ClubCharm will be designed as an afterschool destination, rather than a school,” Shimoko said in a press release. “It is our belief that if we want to bring positive ‘fun-damental’ influences in children’s value systems and behaviors, we need to create a community where those beliefs and corresponding behaviors can be practiced, expressed and nurtured. Basically, ClubCharm will integrate practical and commonsensical skills for positive personal growth. It will provide a place where young girls can learn, create and express themselves.”
ClubCharm will collaborate with community leaders as guest “aunties and uncles” to impact members through special workshops. ClubCharm leadership topics include self esteem and how to build it, developing good relationships, nutrition and healthy lifestyle, posture and body language, first impressions, community involvement and service, arts, crafts, cooking, dance, education and career goals, global awareness, positive life skills, parenting, and leading a balanced life.
The cost to enroll at ClubCharm as a charter member is $325 (regular membership is $500), which includes eight ClubCharm days, with each ClubCharm day comprised of four hours.
The first CharmDay will be on Sept. 8 at the Honolulu campus on 2051 Young Street. It will be open to students Monday through Friday. ClubCharm will also offer birthday parties on weekends.
The free CharmFaire event will include a sample workshop for attendees to experience. ClubCharm’s life coach, Karen Elizaga, a Punahou alumni and New York City resident, is developing the curriculum and will be the featured presenter at the event.
