LIHUE — A 21-year-old Hanapepe man died this morning after a single-car crash on Koloa Road.

Kauai police said Brian Pacheco was driving southbound shortly after 1 a.m. when he crossed the centerline and struck a dirt hill and a utility pole on the northbound shoulder.
The impact caused Pacheco’s car to move back onto the roadway and come to a stop on its side.
Firefighters and paramedics responded.
Pacheco was transported to Wilcox Hospital, where he later died.
Police do not know yet if speed, alcohol or drugs contributed to the crash.
Pacheco is Kauai’s third traffic fatality for 2009.
