MLB: Struggling Matsuzaka to skip turn in Red Sox rotation
Associated Press
BOSTON — Struggling Boston Red Sox pitcher Daisuke Matsuzaka will skip his next turn in the rotation.
Red Sox manager Terry Francona said Saturday that Matsuzaka will have a medical exam to see if there is anything physically wrong with him.
Matsuzaka's next turn in the rotation would have been Thursday, but that's the day John Smoltz is scheduled to make his return from rehab.
Matsuzaka is 1-5 with an 8.23 ERA after giving up six runs on Friday night and failing to get an out in the fifth inning.
He was 18-3 with a 2.90 ERA last season, the Japanese star's second after joining the Red Sox.
