CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Joe Smith, bringing the veteran forward back for another NBA title run.
Smith cleared waivers on Wednesday and must pass a physical before he can sign with the Cavaliers, who reluctantly traded him away last summer. Smith is not expected to be in uniform for Wednesday's game against Milwaukee but should be ready for Cleveland's game in Boston on Friday.
Smith bought out his contract with Oklahoma City for a chance to rejoin the Cavs (47-12), who have the Eastern Conference's best record. Smith averaged 6.6 points and 4.5 rebounds in 36 games for the Thunder.
He will help offset the loss of Ben Wallace, who is expected to miss at least three more weeks with a broken leg
