Pulling rigorous double-sport duty and excelling in both, Kaiser senior Chelsy Okuma came away with top basketball postseason honors in the O'ahu Interscholastic Association White Conference Eastern Division.
Okuma, a tireless 5-foot-2 guard, was named OIA White East Player of the Year by division coaches.
She also was recently named an OIA Red East soccer first-team all-star as a midfielder. She played both sports throughout the winter.
In basketball, Okuma posted three 20-point games — 27 in a loss to Kahuku, 26 in a victory over Nanakuli and 22 in a win over Kalaheo. She helped the Cougars finish 11-6 and in third place, earning Kaiser a Division II state tournament berth.
Okuma is joined on the OIA White East all-star first team by fellow Cougar and classmate Keely Bitanga, Kaimuki senior Olivia Phommachanh, Kahuku senior Nile Te'o and Kalaheo junior Kourtni Thomas.
Kahuku's David Te'o was named Coach of the Year after guiding the Red Raiders to a 14-1 record and the OIA White championship.
