HECO wants to lower rates for poor

Hawaiian Electric wants to give a break to low-income households.
The company is asking the Public Utilities Commission to approve monthly credits of $25 to qualified Oahu customers regardless of family size, $30 for Maui and $35 for customers on the Big Island, Molokai and Lanai.
HECO's president and CEO, Dick Rosenblum, says the company wants to help those most vulnerable in troubled economic times.
The credits would be available to customers who are enrolled in government-assistance programs.
