Pearl City, Kauai earn top seeds for state baseball championships
Pearl City and Kaua'i received the top seeds for this week's Wally Yonamine Foundation/Hawai'i High School Athletic Association Baseball State Championships.
Pearl City, the O'ahu Interscholastic Association champion, is seeded first in Division I, followed by 'Iolani, Hilo and Kamehameha-Maui. The top four seeds all received first-round byes.
First-round action begins on Wednesday at Les Murakami Stadium. Punahou, the five-time state champion, plays Campbell in the first round, with the winner advancing to face Pearl City.
The championship game is Saturday at 7 p.m.
In Division II, defending champion Kaua'i is the top seed, followed by St. Anthony, Waipahu and Hawai'i Prep. The top four seeds all received first-round byes.
First-round action begins on Wednesday at Hans L'Orange Park in Waipahu. The championship game is Saturday at 5 p.m. at Les Murakami.
