Bicyclist critically hurt in bus collision

A bicyclist was critically injured yesterday when he collided with a tour bus on Kaukonahua Road near Hale'iwa.
The cyclist, a man in his 30s, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition and was later downgraded to critical condition, according to Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic.
The collision was reported at 1:20 p.m.
FOUR TEEN ESCAPEES RECAPTURED IN HOURS
Four teenage boys who walked away from a work detail at the Hawai'i Youth Correctional Facility in Kailua yesterday were arrested hours later and returned to the center, Honolulu police said.
Two of the boys are 15 years old and the others are 16 and 17, police said. After they escaped around 10 a.m., the boys went swimming in the Enchanted Lake area and one was arrested around 11 a.m.
The other three were arrested around 2 p.m. and were booked into the Kailua police substation.
POLICE SEEK SUV IN WAIKIKI HIT-RUN
Honolulu police yesterday were searching for a white 2007 Audi SUV involved in a hit-and-run pedestrian accident at Ala Wai Boulevard and Kalakaua Avenue.
The crash occurred at 11:13 a.m. and police said the Audi then fled mauka on Kalakaua Avenue. Witnesses reported a partial license plate that includes the numbers "312."
The pedestrian declined medical treatment.
FIRST COMMISSIONED OFFICER FROM KOSRAE
Arthur Cornelius became the first commissioned officer from Kosrae, Micronesia, with his promotion to the rank of Navy chief warrant officer at a ceremony yesterday at Pearl Harbor.
Cornelius' promotion also makes him the second commissioned officer from the Federated States of Micronesia.
After his chief anchors were removed at the ceremony, Cornelius' family pinned on his shoulder boards and placed on his new hat, designating him a chief warrant officer.
Alik J. Alik, vice president of the Federated States of Micronesia, told Cornelius, "We are very proud of your having been able to accomplish this significant step in your career and your life. Your steadfast devotion has brought great honor to the U.S. Armed Forces and Micronesia."
CONTRACTOR BREAKS GAS LINE IN 'EWA
A private contractor punctured a Gas Co. line near Fort Weaver Road in 'Ewa yesterday morning that took nearly all day to repair.
Customers never lost service but may have experienced diminished pressure in their lines, Gas Co. spokeswoman Stephanie Ackerman said.
