Grand jury indicts suspect in attorney's shooting death
A grand jury yesterday indicted Daniel Kahanaoi of Waimanalo on six criminal charges related to the April 28 shooting death of Kailua attorney Craig Kimsel.
Kahanaoi, 45, "cold-bloodedly shot the victim in his home," Deputy Prosecutor Lynn Park told Circuit Judge Derrick Chan when the indictment was returned yesterday.
Chan continued Kahanaoi's bail, set after he was arrested by police after Kimsel's death, at $1 million.
Park told Chan that Kahanaoi has a record of 17 previous arrests, with convictions for seven misdemeanors and petty misdemeanors.
Kahanaoi was indicted on charges of second-degree murder, burglary, three firearms crimes and violation of a temporary restraining order.
The restraining order was obtained against Kahanaoi in March by his former girlfriend, Rusty Anoba, who was in Kimsel's house the night that Kahanaoi allegedly shot him in the head.
