Police and fire rescue teams expanded their search yesterday in Pearl City for a 63-year-old woman who has been missing since Sunday.

The search for Gail Yoshida was called off when darkness fell yesterday and was expected to resume this morning.

Yoshida was last seen at about 3 p.m. Sunday when she left her home to walk her dog, a 30-pound Jack Russell terrier named "Maile" or "Miley." Yoshida usually walked her dog near Pearl City High School, police said.

Maj. Clayton Kau, HPD spokesman, said there were two unconfirmed sightings Sunday of Yoshida on a roadway to the rear of the high school and on a hiking trail above the school.

Search crews and family members focused their attention yesterday near the school, as well as along the trail, Kau said. He said he wasn't sure if the trail was part of Yoshida's routine or if she was familiar with it.

"It's kind of an extensive and long trail and there's a deep ravine in that area," Kau said.

Police said they do not suspect foul play in Yoshida's disappearance.

She is described as 5 feet 4 and 125 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. She was last wearing a green long-sleeve sweater, blue shorts and a red-and-blue baseball cap.
